Welcome to The Cabaret

One of Toronto's number one Vintage stores, the Cabaret, is locatedon Queen street West. Probably one of Toronto's more famed vintage stores, it never fails to please and always has the best quality vintage in town.

The atmosphere at the Cabaret is really what makes it unique. The minute you step into the store and off of Queen West, you feel as if you've stepped back in time to a very classy store.

The Cabaret's specialty without doubt is formal and semi-formal dress. They cater to both men and women with everything from tailcoats and spats for your men to glamorous evening wear for every woman.

The one downfall to the Cabaret is the prices. Though their selection is worth every penny of the price (dresses are usually a few hundred) it's not something a starving artist or university student could ever afford.

Luckily, the Cabaret also has a gorgeous assortment of jewelry, hats and accessories for both men and women. Though none of it is cheap either, a student might be able to stretch their OSAP money to cover a nice necklace or a pair of gloves and be greatly rewarded by the feeling of wearing something so high end.

The staff at the Cabaret are also a big help, so if you're not sure what you're looking for, need help finding the perfect necklace for your dress or even just want to hear a bit about the store, feel free to ask.

Overall, the Cabaret has earned it's reputation as one of Toronto's best, and although the prices can be a little disappointing (even depressing) to us poor kids, if you ever buy something from there, you will learn that it's well worth every penny.

An Introduction by Caitlynn

"I bought a Vogue because I felt like it would feed me more" - Carrie Bradshaw in Sex and the City

Growing up in a university town with little to do and little fashion to find, I always felt like an outcast. I would read Vogue over playing video games, write projects on Audrey Hepburn over sports legends and buy vintage clothes over shopping at a mall.

When I moved to Toronto, it was as if it all made sense. On a daily basis I see such amazing fashion with my room mate Kait. Its hard to not feel inspired when such beautiful pieces of art walk the street. We decided that we should capture the beautiful things we see on  a regular day instead of forgetting them the next morning.

So I'm a photographer and I moved to Toronto to just start fresh and create a new life for myself. I currently work in a Portrait Studio but I also do freelance work. I love shooting fashion but I also love to snap some shots of live events.

Its really hard to put my own style in words. I am inspired by many people but mainly Edie Sedgwick, Taylor Momsen and Audrey Hepburn. I know it is a bit of an eclectic mix but together they make me. The classic elegance of Audrey, the rock and roll edge of Taylor and the creativity of Edie all combined create how I dress.

I hope you enjoy our blog, we look forward to hearing from you! <3

An introduction by Kaitlin

The idea for this blog blossomed on many a walk throughout Toronto with my roommate, Caitlynn. It's easy to be inspired by the fashion in a city like Toronto, and we wanted to capture the looks we encountered on a daily basis, but very likely forgot the next morning.

Some more about me:
My name is Kaitlin MacLean, I'm currently an illustration student at OCADU in downtown Toronto and love fashion (and fashion illustration!). I moved to Toronto less than a year ago, and was startled by the massive amounts of gorgeous people. Since I moved here I've felt the need to step it up because of all these people: I put on lipstick and heels to go to the grocery store to pick up milk. Personal style soon became an obsession with my invitation to www.lookbook.nu and now it's something I think about constantly.

My fashion you ask? Well, when it comes to the way I dress I'd say it's a mix of vintage and modern day business casual, with hints of goth, high fashion and other accents that are everything from victorian to rockabilly.

I live with my beautiful fashion designer boyfriend (Craig) and of course, my soon to be ex-roommate, fashionista and fashion photographer, Caitlynn.

I hope you enjoy my spin on fashion, hope to hear from you all soon!
