Vintage Find of the Day

So Kaitlin's Gran is probably one of the most amazing women that I have yet to meet. She is always checking up on Kait since she moved to Toronto. They write emails, talk on the phone and makes sure that her university bound grandchild is alive and well.. Its amazing that they are family as well as best friends.
One of the fabulous presents that she recently gave to her granddaughter was a vintage circa 1980's blue hat but the unfortunate thing for Kaitlin is, that is doesn't fit. The fortunate thing for me is, it fits me. So now I have a very cute and ultra chic hat to borrow thanks to Kait's Gran.  : )

Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year!

As you may have noticed, we've been somewhat lacking in updates over the holidays, but our downfalls in updates, we've made up in awesome fashion finds.

Over the break, we've been gifting and getting tons of new and vintage clothing and accessories and in the process have discovered some new shops we'd like to introduce you to!

It's really hard to for us to choose what to post first, but I guess we'll start with some cute handmade pillbox hats!

I found these for myself while I was trying to Christmas shop for my family. Ophelie Hat have a lot of very cute designs, everything from berets, to fedoras to feather hair pieces. TO top it all off, the designer was super nice, and helped me find hats that look great on me. (After pulling out big, black garbage bags just full of handmade hats!)

If you'd like to see some more of her work, you can check out her website here: http://www.opheliehats.com/ though I've found she has so much more in person, so if you can make it out to a show, it would definitely be worth it.

I found Ophelie at the Toronto One of a Kind craft and design show. I've gone every year for the past few years and it seems to just get better and better. If you're ever in TO, it's well worth the money to see the show, even if you just head to the food section and eat free samples all day ;) http://www.oneofakindshow.com/xmas10/

This hat design I liked so much, I couldn't decide between two colours... so I bought them both :D

The exaggerated leaves in the design really frame the eye, and make for a really striking piece.

Ever since I bought that red vintage hat, I've been on a bit of a hat rampage, and these hats really solidified my obsession. Along with these hats, you'll be seeing some others in the next month, as well as some cute vintage clutches, hounds tooth galore (another new obsession of mine) and some new and old jewelry.

From the Caitlins, we hope that you had some fantastic holidays and that your new year brings you fabulous clothes!

Vintage Find of the Day

Public Butter at Queen Street West  and Gwynne Avenue has an absolutely fabulous sale on, 50% off everything in the store! Everyone should come and check out this unique Parkdale vintage clothing and furniture store.
This purse was a perfect find. It is just small enough to be comfortable to carry around, just big enough to fit almost everything you need in it and has just the right amount of detail to be so completely adorable.

Vintage Find of the Day!

This classic vest was purchased at The King of Kensington. In perfect condition for a vintage find, this vest can be worn casually and dressed up. We really appreciate the colour of this vest as well as the fabric used. This was definitely a good find, but that is what you can expect from the King of Kensington.

Vintage Find of the Day

If you couldn't tell, we love the King of Kensington but for this week, we promise that this is our second last post on them. This almost velvet textured brocade blazer was so nicely priced at 25$. Instead of buttons, it has a simple black ribbon to tie up the jacket.  It is so classy and timeless and such a fabulous find!

Vintage Find of the Day

This was also found at the King of Kensington. It is a Christina Dior silk night  gown, isn't it is fantastic? What made me really happy, besides that Dior label was the fact that it still had its product code, which i looked up and does match with Dior.  I feel so elegant and classy wearing it to bed.

The King of Kensington is a place that you must get to! The staff is fantastic and the clothes are so beautiful.

Vintage Find of the Day

Today's vintage find comes from The King of Kensington. This is definitely one of our favourite spots to shop. There is always so much to find and the staff is very friendly.
Here we have my new Beaver fur Muff (tehe). It vintage about 1940 or 1950. It's very warm, very soft and very cute.

What makes this muff very unique (and even more functional) is a hidden, snap closure purse! I've done some research and can't find anything like this. The only other ones with purses have big ugly zippers, not like this classy one.

This is now one of my fave pieces; I never leave home without it.

An Introduction by Caitlynn

"I bought a Vogue because I felt like it would feed me more" - Carrie Bradshaw in Sex and the City

Growing up in a university town with little to do and little fashion to find, I always felt like an outcast. I would read Vogue over playing video games, write projects on Audrey Hepburn over sports legends and buy vintage clothes over shopping at a mall.

When I moved to Toronto, it was as if it all made sense. On a daily basis I see such amazing fashion with my room mate Kait. Its hard to not feel inspired when such beautiful pieces of art walk the street. We decided that we should capture the beautiful things we see on  a regular day instead of forgetting them the next morning.

So I'm a photographer and I moved to Toronto to just start fresh and create a new life for myself. I currently work in a Portrait Studio but I also do freelance work. I love shooting fashion but I also love to snap some shots of live events.

Its really hard to put my own style in words. I am inspired by many people but mainly Edie Sedgwick, Taylor Momsen and Audrey Hepburn. I know it is a bit of an eclectic mix but together they make me. The classic elegance of Audrey, the rock and roll edge of Taylor and the creativity of Edie all combined create how I dress.

I hope you enjoy our blog, we look forward to hearing from you! <3

An introduction by Kaitlin

The idea for this blog blossomed on many a walk throughout Toronto with my roommate, Caitlynn. It's easy to be inspired by the fashion in a city like Toronto, and we wanted to capture the looks we encountered on a daily basis, but very likely forgot the next morning.

Some more about me:
My name is Kaitlin MacLean, I'm currently an illustration student at OCADU in downtown Toronto and love fashion (and fashion illustration!). I moved to Toronto less than a year ago, and was startled by the massive amounts of gorgeous people. Since I moved here I've felt the need to step it up because of all these people: I put on lipstick and heels to go to the grocery store to pick up milk. Personal style soon became an obsession with my invitation to www.lookbook.nu and now it's something I think about constantly.

My fashion you ask? Well, when it comes to the way I dress I'd say it's a mix of vintage and modern day business casual, with hints of goth, high fashion and other accents that are everything from victorian to rockabilly.

I live with my beautiful fashion designer boyfriend (Craig) and of course, my soon to be ex-roommate, fashionista and fashion photographer, Caitlynn.

I hope you enjoy my spin on fashion, hope to hear from you all soon!
